When it comes to my lifelong relationship with music, I’ve played the roles of radio host, DJ, promoter, publicity director, critic, festival volunteer manager, collector and — most importantly — mosher / dancer / singer-alonger from the crowd. (Still haven’t tried my hand at being a bouncer, or being in a band.)

My sets for radio and club are playful and experimental, thanks to almost 20 years of experience and nerdery. I hosted my first publicly-aired radio show in February, 2006. Today, I host a monthly show called aequa Radio on Refuge Worldwide here in Berlin — a collage of music, poetry, found sound and archive, together with interviews with guests from local Berlin community organizing and mutual aid initiatives.

To get the holistic view of my practice:

If you just want to check my music tastes:

I’m honored to have been booked to play clubs and events like CTM Festival, Panorama Bar, Berghain Halle, Globus (Tresor), OHM, Room 4 Resistance at Trauma Bar (RIP), REEF at Grießmühle (RIP), Wilde Renate, my beloved and laid-to-rest residencies at Farbfernseher and Loftus Hall, as well as many cozy little rooms through the years. I’ve had radio shows on WZBC 90.3FM (Boston, U.S.), Studentradio i Bergen (Norway), Berlin Community Radio (RIP) and now Refuge Worldwide (Berlin). I also spent many years organizing small dance music events with partners and friends in Boston and Berlin.

I love many kinds of music and I feel l like I am discovering new genres every day, but in general I like things that are bassy, glitchy, floaty, reverby, broken-beat, noisy, and in general just music that makes me feel something. I play both vinyl and digital formats.

“A community organiser and facilitator with 18 years of DJ skills behind them, Sarj has a passion for bringing textured and diverse experiences in all formats and genres. Host of Refuge Worldwide’s aequa radio show, they bring a wealth of sounds and knowledge to the decks while exploring both our individual potential and collective power. Their club sets are nurturing, bringing dancers together in a ritual of support. They believe in a better world, and work to make it so – along with their efforts as a creator of parties and radio shows – they’re also a member of Berlin Collective Action, which organises emergency funds and donations.” - CTM Festival, 2024
